Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Turkey in 2016, Halkbank was the largest mortgage lender, followed by Ziraat Bank and Garanti Bank.
Halkbank's mortgage loans reached TRY 41,741 mil, up from TRY 12,311 mil compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s mortgage loans reached an all time high of TRY 41,741 mil in 2016 and an all time low of TRY 12,307 mil in 2014.
At the end of 2016, mortgage loans represented 26.3% of Halkbank's loan book.
Comparing Halkbank with its closest peers, Ziraat Bank's mortgage loans amounted to TRY 32,389 mil at the end of 2016, Garanti Bank operated with TRY 23,700 mil mortgage loans and Yapi Kredi Bank had a mortgage loan book of TRY 20,000 mil at the end of 2016.
Turkish banking sector provided mortgage loans of TRY 166 mil in 2016, up 14.0% when compared to the previous year. As a result, the top ranked company - Halkbank accounted for 25.2% of the sector’s mortgage loans in 2016. The top 3 companies hold a 59.1% share while the five largest firms some 81.9% in 2016.
