Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania in 2017, Banca Commerciala Romana was the largest deposit taker, followed by Banca Transilvania and BRD Groupe Societe Generale.
Banca Commerciala Romana's customer deposits reached RON 52,496 mil, up from RON 48,235 mil, compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of RON 52,496 mil in 2017 and an all time low of RON 6,592 mil in 2000.
Comparing Banca Commerciala Romana with its closest peers, Banca Transilvania's deposits amounted to RON 49,060 mil at the end of 2017, BRD Groupe Societe Generale operated with RON 44,220 mil of customer deposits and Raiffeisen Bank Romania had clients' deposits of RON 29,696 mil at the end of 2017.
Romanian banks had customer deposits of CZK 303 bil in 2017, up 10.4% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Banca Commerciala Romana accounted for 17.3% of the sector’s deposits in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 48.1% share while the five largest firms some 66.9% in 2017.
