Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania in 2017, CEC Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Alpha Bank Romania and OTP Bank Romania.

CEC Bank's non-performing loans reached 15.0% of total loans at the end of 2017, down from 15.0% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 31.0% in 2013 and an all time low of 15.0% in 2016.

Provision coverage amounted to 13.7% at the end of 2017, down from 13.7% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing CEC Bank with its closest peers, Alpha Bank Romania operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 13.7% and provision coverage of 68.0%, OTP Bank Romania with 13.5% and 78.9% and Piraeus Bank Romania had 10.6% of bad loans covered with 61.7% by provisions at the end of 2017.

Non-performing loans of the whole Romania’s banking sector amounted to 6.41% of total loans in 2017, down from 9.62% when compared to the last year.
