Piraeus Bank Bulgaria's non-performing loans reached 15.1% of total loans at the end of 2017, down from 32.8% compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 35.3% in 2014 and an all time low of 1.02% in 2007.
Provision coverage amounted to 46.6% at the end of 2017, down from 52.4% compared to a year earlier.
The bank created loan loss provisions worth of -1.40% of average loans in 2017. That's compared to 3.73% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.
Comparing Piraeus Bank Bulgaria with its closest peers, DSK Bank operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 11.2% and provision coverage of 92.3%, United Bulgarian Bank with 23.6% and 67.0% respectively and Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria had 4.33% of bad loans covered with 89.0% by provisions at the end of 2017.
