Sales of new cars decreased by 216 thousand in June compared to last year. In the first six months of the year, the decline reached 13.7% yoy . The smallest decline was seen in Iceland (35.7%) while sales in Croatia dropped the most (-28.4%). Volkswagen Group sold the most cars in June 2022 in Europe, some 256 thousand vehicles representing 24.0% of the European market.

In June 2022, passenger car registrations continued their downward trend as supply chain issues continue to limit vehicle output. With 886,510 units registered in the EU, this is the lowest month of June on record since 1996.

In June, most vehicles (225 thousand) were sold in Germany (down 18.1% yoy), followed by France (171 thousand, down 14.2%), the United Kingdom with 141 thousand cars (down 24.3%), 127 thousand new vehicles were registered in Italy (down 14.9%) and 89.3 thousand in Spain (down 7.78%). The five largest countries accounted for 62.3% of total new vehicles registered in June 2022.

In relative terms, sales in Iceland (+35.7%) and Latvia (+6.19%) declined the least compared to a year ago, whereas registration in Croatia and Lithuania dropped the most (-28.4% and -27.8% yoy), in June 2022, according to ACEA.

Volkswagen Group sold the most cars in June 2022 in Europe, some 256 thousand vehicles representing 24.0% of the European market. Sales of PSA Group amounted to 158 thousand vehicles (or 14.8% of the market) while Renault Group and Hyundai Group held 12.0% and 9.50% of the European market in June. Overall, the five largest manufacturers sold 67.1% of all new cars in June.
