Following the acquisition of Rijecka Banka in 2002, Erste Bank has become the third largest bank in Croatia by assets with nearly a 17% share. Erste Bank is the second largest commercial bank in Austria. The Group was founded in 1819 as the first Austrian savings bank. In 1997, Erste Group went public with a strategy to expand its retail business into Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
