Thefts of private cars recorded by the police reached 5,636 in 2012 in Hungary, according to the United Nations. This is 13.8% more than in the previous year.

Historically, thefts of private cars recorded by the police in Hungary reached an all time high of 6,968 in 2004 and an all time low of 4,779 in 2010.
