Based on a comparison of 28 countries in 2013, Liechtenstein ranked the highest in population density (predominantly rural regions) with 237 people per km2 followed by Netherlands and Belgium. On the other end of the scale was Iceland with 1.20 people per km2, Norway with 6.80 people per km2 and Sweden with 8.60 people per km2.
