Based on a comparison of 16 countries in 2016, France ranked the highest in official production of PDO wine with 22,591 1,000 hl followed by Italy and Spain. On the other end of the scale was Cyprus with 2.20 1,000 hl, Belgium with 3.60 1,000 hl and Malta with 8.50 1,000 hl.
