Based on a comparison of 18 countries in 2016, Italy ranked the highest in gross human consumption of PGI wine with 8,881 1,000 hl followed by France and United Kingdom. On the other end of the scale was Croatia with 8.24 1,000 hl, Malta with 24.8 1,000 hl and Estonia with 26.0 1,000 hl.
