Based on a comparison of 19 countries in 2016, France ranked the highest in gross human consumption of PDO wine with 16,815 1,000 hl followed by Germany and Italy. On the other end of the scale was Malta with 25.8 1,000 hl, Lithuania with 46.5 1,000 hl and Estonia with 65.0 1,000 hl.
