Based on a comparison of 12 countries in 1999, Spain ranked the highest in catches in east-central atlantic with 241,116 Tonnes live weight followed by Netherlands and France. On the other end of the scale was Norway with 3,421 Tonnes live weight, Italy with 5,845 Tonnes live weight and Estonia with 7,512 Tonnes live weight.
