Based on a comparison of 13 banks among Erste Bank Group in 2017, Erste & Steiermarkische Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Banca Commerciala Romana and Erste Group Bank.
Erste & Steiermarkische Bank's non-performing loans reached 12.6% of total loans at the end of 2017, up from 11.5% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 18.6% in 2014 and an all time low of 3.92% in 2007.
Provision coverage amounted to 9.38% at the end of 2017, down from 12.8% compared to a year earlier.
Comparing Erste & Steiermarkische Bank with its closest peers, Banca Commerciala Romana operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 9.38% and provision coverage of 80.3%, Erste Group Bank with 5.56% and 49.8% and Erste Bank Hungary had 5.48% of bad loans covered with 90.0% by provisions at the end of 2017.
