Who Depends the Most on Money from Workers Abroad?

Based on a comparison of 161 countries in 2021, Tajikistan ranked the highest in workers' remittances received as a share of GDP with 0.334% followed by Kyrgyzstan and Gambia. On the other end of the scale was Turkmenistan with < 0.001%, Brunei with < 0.001% and New Zealand with < 0.001%.

Average workers' remittances received as a share of GDP reached 0.007% in 2021 in the World according to the National Statistical Office. This is 7.8 % less than in the previous year and 12.1 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, average workers' remittances received as a share of GDP reached an all time high of 0.008% in 2020 and an all time low of 0.001% in 1976. The average annual growth amounted to 3.79 % since 1970.
