In most OECD countries the standard working week is around 40 hours but many people work longer. Working paid or unpaid long workweeks is a “man’s thing” in all OECD countries. In Colombia, Turkey, or Mexico 60% or more of men report that they work more than 45 hours per week. High percentages of women also work more than 45 hours in South Korea, South Korea, Turkey or Mexico, for example. On the other hand, workaholics of either gender are rare in Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Austria and Sweden.

Only half of women of working age are in the global labour force, compared to 77% of men. The gender gap in the labour force is especially large in Northern Africa, Western Asia and Southern Asia, according to the report.

Still, we should note that working more hours doesn't necessarily translate into getting more done.
