Based on a comparison of 22 banks in Turkey in 2016, HSBC Bank Turkey was the best capitalised bank, followed by ICBC Turkey Bank and Alternatifbank.
HSBC Bank Turkey's capital adequacy ratio reached 20.4%, up from 15.7% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s capital ratio hit an all time high of 32.6% in 2003 and an all time low of 11.8% in 2006.
Comparing HSBC Bank Turkey with its closest peers, ICBC Turkey Bank ended the year 2016 with a capital adequacy ratio at 19.8%, Alternatifbank with 18.3% and Citibank Turkey some 18.2% at the end of 2016.
The average capital adequacy reached 15.6% in the Turkish banking sector in 2016.
