Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Slovenia in 2016, Gorenjska Banka had the highest share of bad loans, followed by NKBM Group and UniCredit Bank Slovenia.
Gorenjska Banka's non-performing loans reached 21.1% of total loans at the end of 2016, down from 32.7% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 74.1% in 2006 and an all time low of 10.4% in 2010.
Provision coverage amounted to 17.9% at the end of 2016, down from 25.2% compared to a year earlier.
Comparing Gorenjska Banka with its closest peers, NKBM Group operated at the end of 2016 with NPL ratio of 17.9% and provision coverage of 111%, UniCredit Bank Slovenia with 16.5% and 33.8% and Nova Ljubljanska banka had 16.4% of bad loans covered with 69.5% by provisions at the end of 2016.
Non-performing loans of the whole Slovenia’s banking sector amounted to 5.07% of total loans in 2016, down from 9.96% when compared to the last year.
