Based on a comparison of 13 banks in Slovakia, VUB Banka produced the highest net profit in 2017, followed by Slovenska Sporitelna and Tatra banka.
VUB Banka made a net profit of EUR 175 mil, up 11.6% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of EUR 175 mil in 2017 and an all time low of EUR 50.2 mil in 2002. The average profit in the last five years amounted to EUR 155 mil.
The bank generated an average return on equity of 10.6% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 11.2% and a minimum of 10.0%.
Comparing VUB Banka with its closest peers, Slovenska Sporitelna generated a net profit of EUR 164 mil with a ROE of 12.0% in 2017, Tatra banka netted EUR 124 mil (ROE of 12.5%) and CSOB Slovakia announced a net profit of EUR 70.0 mil giving a ROE of 9.22%.
The net profit of the Slovakia’s banking sector amounted to EUR 75,354 mil in 2017, up 1.97% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, VUB Banka accounted for 0.232% of the sector’s net profit in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 0.615% share while the five largest firms some 0.778% in 2017.
