Based on a comparison of 13 banks in Slovakia, Slovenska Sporitelna produced the highest net profit in 2016, followed by VUB Banka and Tatra banka.
Slovenska Sporitelna made a net profit of EUR 215 mil, up 15.9% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of EUR 215 mil in 2016 and an all time low of EUR 0.001 mil in 1999. The average profit in the last five years amounted to EUR 191 mil.
The bank generated an average return on equity of 14.5% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 16.8% and a minimum of 13.0%.
Comparing Slovenska Sporitelna with its closest peers, VUB Banka generated a net profit of EUR 157 mil with a ROE of 10.4% in 2016, Tatra banka netted EUR 126 mil (ROE of 12.7%) and CSOB Slovakia announced a net profit of EUR 83.2 mil giving a ROE of 11.8%.
The net profit of the Slovakia’s banking sector amounted to EUR 73,898 mil in 2016, up 11.3% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, Slovenska Sporitelna accounted for 0.290% of the sector’s net profit in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 0.673% share while the five largest firms some 0.852% in 2016.
