What Banks in Slovakia Were the Largest in 2017?

Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Slovakia in 2017, Slovenska Sporitelna was the largest bank by assets, followed by VUB Banka and Tatra banka.

Slovenska Sporitelna assets reached EUR 16,343 mil, up 10.2% when compared to the last year. Historically, the bank’s assets reached an all time high of EUR 16,343 mil in 2017 and an all time low of EUR 3,591 mil in 1998.

Comparing Slovenska Sporitelna with its closest peers, VUB Banka assets amounted to EUR 14,971 mil, Tatra banka operated with EUR 12,503 mil assets and CSOB Slovakia had total assets of EUR 9,221 mil.

Total assets of the Slovak banking sector amounted to EUR 75.8 bil in 2017, up 6.23% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Slovenska Sporitelna accounted for 21.6% of the sector’s assets in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 57.8% share while the five largest firms some 76.7% in 2017.
