Based on a comparison of 13 banks in Slovakia in 2017, Sberbank Slovakia had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Postova Banka and Prva Stavebna Sporitelna.
Sberbank Slovakia's non-performing loans reached 16.6% of total loans at the end of 2017, up from 14.7% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 16.6% in 2017 and an all time low of 2.04% in 2005.
Provision coverage amounted to 9.52% at the end of 2017, down from 11.7% compared to a year earlier.
Comparing Sberbank Slovakia with its closest peers, Postova Banka operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 9.52% and provision coverage of 70.7%, Prva Stavebna Sporitelna with 8.63% and 30.6% and Prima Banka Slovakia had 8.05% of bad loans covered with 84.7% by provisions at the end of 2017.
Non-performing loans of the whole Slovakia’s banking sector amounted to 3.68% of total loans in 2017, down from 4.52% when compared to the last year.
