Based on a comparison of 19 banks in Russia in 2016, VTB Bank was the most cost efficient bank, followed by AK BARS Bank and Credit Bank of Moscow.

VTB Bank's cost to income ratio reached 20.8% in 2016, up from 11.9% when compared to the last year. Historically, the bank’s costs reached an all time high of 61.1% in 2004 and an all time low of -0.127% in 2009.

When compared to total assets, bank's cost amounted to 1.39% in 2016, up from 0.451% a year earlier.

Comparing VTB Bank with its closest peers, AK BARS Bank operated in 2016 with a cost to income ratio of 24.4%, Credit Bank of Moscow reached 25.4% and Sovcombank some 31.0%.
