Based on a comparison of 19 banks in Russia in 2016, Sberbank was the largest lender, followed by VTB Bank and Gazprombank.
Sberbank loans reached RUB 17,253,200 mil, down 7.27% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s loans reached an all time high of RUB 18,606,200 mil in 2015 and an all time low of RUB 158,644 mil in 1997.
Comparing Sberbank with its closest peers, VTB Bank customer loans amounted to RUB 8,289,600 mil, Gazprombank operated with RUB 3,247,620 mil loans and Otkritie Financial Corporation Bank had a loan portfolio of RUB 1,828,720 mil.
Russian banking sector provided total customer loans of CZK 46,742 bil in 2016, down 4.95% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Sberbank accounted for 36.9% of the sector’s loans in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 61.6% share while the five largest firms some 69.0% in 2016.
