Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania in 2016, Banca Commerciala Romana was the largest lender, followed by BRD Groupe Societe Generale and Banca Transilvania.
Banca Commerciala Romana loans reached RON 32,291 mil, down 0.492% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s loans reached an all time high of RON 47,804 mil in 2011 and an all time low of RON 2,970 mil in 2000.
Comparing Banca Commerciala Romana with its closest peers, BRD Groupe Societe Generale customer loans amounted to RON 27,839 mil, Banca Transilvania operated with RON 26,710 mil loans and UniCredit Tiriac Bank had a loan portfolio of RON 20,477 mil.
Romanian banking sector provided total customer loans of CZK 220 bil in 2016, up 1.24% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Banca Commerciala Romana accounted for 14.7% of the sector’s loans in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 39.5% share while the five largest firms some 57.7% in 2016.
