Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania in 2017, Alpha Bank Romania was the best capitalised bank, followed by Piraeus Bank Romania and Banca Commerciala Romana.
Alpha Bank Romania's capital adequacy ratio reached 22.1%, down from 22.1% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s capital ratio hit an all time high of 35.1% in 2005 and an all time low of 12.9% in 2010.
Comparing Alpha Bank Romania with its closest peers, Piraeus Bank Romania ended the year 2017 with a capital adequacy ratio at 21.8%, Banca Commerciala Romana with 21.3% and BRD Groupe Societe Generale some 20.1% at the end of 2017.
The average capital adequacy reached 20.0% in the Romanian banking sector in 2017.
