Based on a comparison of 12 banks in Philippines in 2018, Asia United Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by PBCOM and EastWest Bank.
Asia United Bank's non-performing loans reached 60.1% of total loans at the end of 2018, up from 0.285% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 60.1% in 2018 and an all time low of 0.285% in 2017.
Provision coverage amounted to 4.19% at the end of 2018, down from 4.70% compared to a year earlier.
Comparing Asia United Bank with its closest peers, PBCOM operated at the end of 2018 with NPL ratio of 4.19% and provision coverage of 94.3%, EastWest Bank with 2.85% and 101% and UnionBank had 2.06% of bad loans covered with 119% by provisions at the end of 2018.
Non-performing loans of the whole Philippines’s banking sector amounted to 1.67% of total loans in 2018, up from 1.58% when compared to the last year.
