Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Italy, Intesa Sanpaolo produced the highest net profit in 2018, followed by UniCredit SpA and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

Intesa Sanpaolo made a net profit of EUR 4,792 mil, down 8.83% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of EUR 7,250 mil in 2007 and an all time low of EUR 68.9 mil in 1994. The average profit in the last five years amounted to EUR 3,611 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of 7.10% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 9.96% and a minimum of 2.87%.

Comparing Intesa Sanpaolo with its closest peers, UniCredit SpA generated a net profit of EUR 3,686 mil with a ROE of 6.30% in 2018, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti netted EUR 2,891 mil (ROE of 7.96%) and Mediobanca announced a net profit of EUR 813 mil giving a ROE of 8.59%.
