Based on a comparison of 13 banks in Italy in 2018, Intesa Sanpaolo was the largest mortgage lender, followed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Banco BPM.
Intesa Sanpaolo's mortgage loans reached EUR 173,793 mil, up from EUR 173,163 mil compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s mortgage loans reached an all time high of EUR 173,793 mil in 2018 and an all time low of EUR 156,100 mil in 2015.
At the end of 2018, mortgage loans represented 48.3% of Intesa Sanpaolo's loan book.
Comparing Intesa Sanpaolo with its closest peers, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti's mortgage loans amounted to EUR 89,006 mil at the end of 2018, Banco BPM operated with EUR 61,677 mil mortgage loans and UBI Banca had a mortgage loan book of EUR 59,272 mil at the end of 2018.
