Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Hungary, OTP Group produced the highest net profit in 2016, followed by OTP Bank Hungary and UniCredit Bank Hungary.
OTP Group made a net profit of HUF 187,396 mil, up 105% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of HUF 240,472 mil in 2008 and an all time low of HUF 7,328 mil in 1995. The average profit in the last five years amounted to HUF 138,386 mil.
The bank generated an average return on equity of 9.96% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 14.1% and a minimum of 7.32%.
Comparing OTP Group with its closest peers, OTP Bank Hungary generated a net profit of HUF 122,194 mil with a ROE of 9.52% in 2016, UniCredit Bank Hungary netted HUF 53,685 mil (ROE of 19.6%) and Erste Bank Hungary announced a net profit of HUF 43,343 mil giving a ROE of 19.6%.
The net profit of the Hungary’s banking sector amounted to HUF 73,525 mil in 2016, up 10.8% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, OTP Group accounted for 255% of the sector’s net profit in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 494% share while the five largest firms some 607% in 2016.
