Based on a comparison of 28 banks in Bulgaria, UniCredit Bulbank produced the highest net profit in 2016, followed by DSK Bank and Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria.
UniCredit Bulbank made a net profit of BGN 361 mil, up 6.22% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of BGN 361 mil in 2016 and an all time low of BGN 68.9 mil in 2001. The average profit in the last five years amounted to BGN 276 mil.
The bank generated an average return on equity of 11.1% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 13.5% and a minimum of 7.32%.
Comparing UniCredit Bulbank with its closest peers, DSK Bank generated a net profit of BGN 303 mil with a ROE of 18.9% in 2016, Raiffeisenbank Bulgaria netted BGN 139 mil (ROE of 15.1%) and Eurobank Bulgaria announced a net profit of BGN 120 mil giving a ROE of 11.6%.
The net profit of the Bulgaria’s banking sector amounted to BGN 1,262 mil in 2016, up 40.5% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, UniCredit Bulbank accounted for 28.6% of the sector’s net profit in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 63.6% share while the five largest firms some 81.9% in 2016.
