Based on a comparison of 28 banks in Bulgaria in 2016, Citibank Bulgaria operated with the lowest loan to deposit ratio, followed by Municipal Bank and ING Bank Bulgaria.
Citibank Bulgaria's loan to deposit ratio reached 21.8% at the end of 2016, up from 19.7% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s loans to deposits hit an all time high of 98.5% in 2007 and an all time low of 19.7% in 2015.
Comparing Citibank Bulgaria with its closest peers, Municipal Bank ended the year 2016 with loans to deposits at 36.5%, ING Bank Bulgaria with 47.5% and Commercial Bank Victoria some 47.7% of loans to deposits at the end of 2016.
Overall, total loans of the Bulgarian banking sector amounted to 77.4% of deposits at the end of 2016.
