Historically, total expenditure on pharmaceuticals as a share of total health care expenditures in Slovakia reached an all time high of 40.2% in 2003 and an all time low of 25.5% in 2018. When compared to Slovakia's main peers, total expenditure on pharmaceuticals as a share of total health care expenditures in Austria amounted to 12.0%, 16.0% in Czech Republic, 26.9% in Hungary and 20.8% in Poland in 2018.
