Historically, unmanufactured tobacco production in Madagascar reached an all time high of 5,940 tonnes in 1973 and an all time low of 988 tonnes in 2015. When compared to Madagascar's main peers, unmanufactured tobacco production in Mozambique amounted to 93,130 tonnes, 11,500 tonnes in South Africa, 156 tonnes in Swaziland and 58,508 tonnes in Tanzania in 2021.
