Public debt rose 18.0% to USD 12.3 bil in Nepal in 2020, according to the National Statistical Office.
Historically, public debt in Nepal reached an all time high of USD 12.3 bil in 2020 and an all time low of USD 3.16 bil in 2000. When compared to Nepal's main peers, public debt in Bangladesh amounted to USD 114 bil, USD 3.22 bil in Bhutan, USD 8,642 bil in China and USD 2,140 bil in India in 2020.
Nepal has been ranked 103rd within the group of 167 countries we follow in terms of public debt, 3 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
