Public debt as a share of GDP rose 2.66% to 37.8% in Chile in 2024, according to the National Statistical Office.
Historically, public debt as a share of GDP in Chile reached an all time high of 45.4% in 1990 and an all time low of 3.90% in 2007. When compared to Chile's main peers, public debt as a share of GDP in Argentina amounted to 69.6%, 87.0% in Bolivia, 38.7% in Paraguay and 63.9% in Uruguay in 2024.
Chile has been ranked 130th within the group of 166 countries we follow in terms of public debt as a share of GDP, 21 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
