Population in cities of more than 1 million rose 4.38% to 1.37 mil in Mauritania in 2021, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, population in cities of more than 1 million in Mauritania reached an all time high of 1.37 mil in 2021 and an all time low of 0.005 mil in 1960. When compared to Mauritania's main peers, population in cities of more than 1 million in Algeria amounted to 2.81 mil, 2.71 mil in Mali, 8.18 mil in Morocco and 3.23 mil in Senegal in 2021.
