Historically, passenger cars per 1,000 people in New Zealand reached an all time high of 707 vehicles in 2019 and an all time low of 528 vehicles in 2005. When compared to New Zealand's main peers, passenger cars per 1,000 people in Australia amounted to 572 vehicles, 58.7 vehicles in Indonesia, 417 vehicles in Malaysia and 32.0 vehicles in Philippines in 2019.
