Passenger cars per 1,000 people fell 1.10% to 360 vehicles in the USA in 2019, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, passenger cars per 1,000 people in the USA reached an all time high of 529 vehicles in 1985 and an all time low of 331 vehicles in 1960. When compared to USA's main peers, passenger cars per 1,000 people in Canada amounted to 626 vehicles, 115 vehicles in China, 501 vehicles in Japan and 231 vehicles in Mexico in 2019.

USA has been ranked 40th within the group of 135 countries we follow in terms of passenger cars per 1,000 people, 13 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
