Non-performing loans as a share of bank loans fell 2.96% to 2.71% in Italy in 2023, according to the National Central Bank.
Historically, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Italy reached an all time high of 18.1% in 2015 and an all time low of 2.71% in 2023. When compared to Italy's main peers, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Austria amounted to 2.48%, 2.06% in France, 1.52% in Slovenia and 0.758% in Switzerland in 2023.
Italy has been ranked 55th within the group of 100 countries we follow in terms of non-performing loans as a share of bank loans, 39 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
