Non-performing loans as a share of bank loans fell 18.1% yoy to 6.65% in Greece in 1Q2024, according to the National Central Bank. This is 11.7% more than in the previous quarter.

Historically, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Greece reached an all time high of 47.6% in 3Q2017 and an all time low of 2.36% in 3Q2008. When compared to Greece's main peers, non-performing loans as a share of bank loans in Albania amounted to 4.45%, 3.74% in Bulgaria, 2.95% in Macedonia and 1.40% in Turkey in 1Q2024.

Greece has been ranked 12th within the group of 89 countries we follow in terms of non-performing loans as a share of bank loans, 10 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
