Historically, five years cumulative net migration in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 5,484 persons in 2009 and an all time low of -98,896 persons in 2016. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, five years cumulative net migration in India amounted to -301,970 persons, 46,165 persons in Malaysia, 1,189 persons in Maldives and -35,382 persons in Myanmar in 2021.
Sri Lanka has been ranked 167th within the group of 176 countries we follow in terms of five years cumulative net migration, 49 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
