Motor vehicles per 1,000 people rose 7.86% to 22.7 vehicles in India in 2015, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, motor vehicles per 1,000 people in India reached an all time high of 22.7 vehicles in 2015 and an all time low of 1.19 vehicles in 1960. When compared to India's main peers, motor vehicles per 1,000 people in Bangladesh amounted to 3.91 vehicles, 117 vehicles in China, 17.3 vehicles in Pakistan and 68.7 vehicles in Sri Lanka in 2015.

India has been ranked 120th within the group of 137 countries we follow in terms of motor vehicles per 1,000 people, 4 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
