Merchandise trade as a share of GDP rose 51.2% to 48.4% in Nepal in 2021, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Nepal reached an all time high of 48.4% in 2021 and an all time low of 4.89% in 1961. When compared to Nepal's main peers, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Bangladesh amounted to 29.9%, 78.9% in Bhutan, 34.1% in China and 30.5% in India in 2021.
