Historically, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Portugal reached an all time high of 68.2% in 2021 and an all time low of 26.5% in 1962. When compared to Portugal's main peers, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in France amounted to 43.9%, 61.4% in Ireland, 65.7% in Morocco and 56.1% in Spain in 2021.
