Historically, killed in road traffic accidents in Switzerland reached an all time high of 1,773 persons in 1971 and an all time low of 216 persons in 2016. When compared to Switzerland's main peers, killed in road traffic accidents in Austria amounted to 432 persons, 3,477 persons in France, 3,206 persons in Germany and 3,283 persons in Italy in 2016.
