Historically, imports as a share of GDP in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 0.548% in 1980 and an all time low of 0.214% in 2020. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, imports as a share of GDP in India amounted to 0.239%, 0.617% in Malaysia, 0.678% in Maldives and 0.248% in Myanmar in 2021.
Sri Lanka has been ranked 127th within the group of 152 countries we follow in terms of imports as a share of GDP, 22 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
