Foreign trade as a share of GDP fell 2.32% to 53.9% in Rwanda in 2021, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Rwanda reached an all time high of 71.1% in 1994 and an all time low of 18.6% in 1963. When compared to Rwanda's main peers, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Burundi amounted to 28.8%, 31.4% in Tanzania, 41.7% in Uganda and 80.5% in Dem. Republic of the Congo in 2021.
