Erste Bank is the second largest commercial bank in Austria. The Group was founded in 1819 as the first Austrian savings bank. In 1997, Erste Group went public with a strategy to expand its retail business into Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Since then Erste Group's customer base has grown through numerous acquisitions and organic growth from 600,000 to around 16.4 million. With 2,900 branches and 46,000 employees, Erste Group is today one of the largest financial services providers in the Eastern part of EU in terms of clients and total assets.
