EastWest Bank's non-performing loans reached 2.85% of total loans at the end of 2018, up from 1.53% compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 3.08% in 2014 and an all time low of 1.53% in 2017.
Provision coverage amounted to 101% at the end of 2018, down from 183% compared to a year earlier.
The bank created loan loss provisions worth of 1.68% of average loans in 2018. That's compared to 2.64% of loans the bank put aside to its cost on average in the last five years.
