Cigarette consumption per capita fell 1.50% to 685 per year in France in 2016, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, cigarette consumption per capita in France reached an all time high of 1,736 per year in 1985 and an all time low of 44.4 per year in 1900. When compared to France's main peers, cigarette consumption per capita in Belgium amounted to 916 per year, 941 per year in Germany, 1,174 per year in Italy and 902 per year in Spain in 2016.
